- Launch forms part of European expansion strategy for international group with €325bn in assets under management*
LONDON — Manulife Asset Management, the investment management arm of Manulife Financial Corporation (TSX, NYSE: MFC) with €325 billion of client assets*, has launched a range of six actively-managed UCITS funds in Italy.
The funds aim to offer Italian discretionary fund buyers, family offices, pension funds and insurance companies, exposure to global, Asian and emerging markets opportunities. The newly offered funds are designed to generate diversified, risk-adjusted returns that may address the challenges of low yields, low growth and correlations between asset classes.
Manulife Asset Management’s fund range has been specifically selected from among the company’s most successful strategies, such as Strategic Fixed Income, derived from a global total return strategy launched in 1986 that now has €32.2 billion in assets**, and Global Equity, whose underlying strategy has outperformed the MSCI World Index by an annualised 3.42 percent since launch in January 2010***.
Marco Zanuso, Head of Distribution, EMEA ex UK, at Manulife Asset Management, says, “We hope to offer professional fund selectors more choice for the alpha generating parts of their portfolio. The funds aim to address the problems posed by low interest rates, low growth and correlated asset classes. Most of our products are derived from existing, successful strategies that have been battle tested in challenging markets.
“Italian fund buyers have long had a keen eye for new opportunities, and early feedback from some of the leading players has certainly been positive. Now that we are able to market our funds in Italy, we look forward to more detailed conversations about the outcomes professional fund selectors want and how we can help achieve them though a long term partnership.”
Manulife Asset Management first announced its European expansion in 2016, creating a European headquarters in London and hiring distribution and investment professionals. Its move into Italy is one element of a strategic plan to create and distribute products that meet the needs of institutional and wholesale investors across EMEA.
The range of Manulife Asset Management’s Dublin registered products includes:
- Strategic Fixed Income Fund
- Global Equity Fund
- Asian Bond Absolute Return Fund
